Event Details
On June 29, 250 years ago, George Washington and two military aides rode through Wallingford and stopped at the Carrington Inn on Center Street. Washington had just been named Commander of the Continental Army and was riding to Boston, where that army—a rag-tag group of farmers and other volunteers—was camped in the hills overlooking Boston Harbor. That was the real beginning of the American Revolution that went on for eight years. This presentation will commemorate Washington's visit to our town in the weeks leading up to the official anniversary celebration.
This talk will be led by Sichan Siv, a former refugee from the Khmer Rouge in Cambodia who went on to be Deputy Assistant to President George H.W. Bush and has served in several diplomatic capacities. He is also an avid student of the American Revolution and one of the few individuals to have read the original of George Washington's diary. He currently resides in Texas, but maintains strong previous ties to Wallingford.
