Founded in 1987 and housed within The Wadsworth Atheneum, the Amistad Center was inspired by the historical Amistad ship, whose African captives famously revolted for their freedom in 1839. Its collection of 7,000 works of art and artifacts document over three centuries of the beauty, struggle, and spirit of Black life in America and beyond. Explore its permanent and visiting exhibitions in this one-hour virtual tour led by members of the Center’s staff!
