Event Details

Join us for a special screening of the 2025 documentary The Librarians in honor of National School Library Month! In this acclaimed feature, librarians emerge as first responders in the fight for democracy and our First Amendment Rights. As they well know, controlling the flow of ideas means control over communities. In Texas, the Krause List targets 850 books focused on race and LGBTQia+ stories – triggering sweeping book bans across the U.S. at an unprecedented rate. As tensions escalate, librarians connect the dots from heated school and library board meetings nationwide to lay bare the underpinnings of extremism fueling the censorship efforts. Despite facing harassment, threats, and laws aimed at criminalizing their work – the librarians’ rallying cry for freedom to read is a chilling cautionary tale. (Unrated, 92 minutes)

The screening will include a special introductory video by Amanda Jones, author of the bestselling 2024 memoir That Librarian and one of the librarians featured in the documentary. This event is a collaboration between the Wallingford Public Library and the CT Association of School Librarians (CASL). It will be immediately followed by a short Q&A with CASL's President, Valerie DiLorenzo, and Immediate Past President, Jenny Lussier. Registration is required; please sign up below!
