VIRTUAL & IN-PERSON MEETING
Absolution by Alice McDermott
In 1963, Tricia Kelly is a shy newlywed and a kindergarten teacher who travels to Vietnam with her husband Peter, a civilian engineer "on loan" to Navy Intelligence. Once there, she meets Charlene, a corporate wife who talks Tricia into joining her volunteer army of do-gooders to perform charitable acts for the Vietnamese. McDermott's 2023 novel won the Mark Twain American Voice in Literature Award and was named a best book of the year by NPR, TIME Magazine and Kirkus Review.
Moderated by Readers Advisory Librarian Cindy Haiken. For details about meeting virtually or in-person, contact Cindy Haiken at chaiken@wallingfordlibrary.org.
